®PMP exam consists of 230 minutes with 180 questions (4 choices, more than four choices with several correct answers, drag and drop, etc.). Like many parts of the world, this exam is administered only by computer and in test centers designated by PMI in neighboring countries such as UAE, Turkey, or Pakistan.

According to PMBOK, the primary test reference, project management knowledge expression structure, is based on ten project management knowledge areas.

As a result of the continuous and focused scientific and practical activities of specialists, educational centers, universities, organizations, and associations worldwide, the field of project management has changed dramatically in the past four decades. These efforts and explorations continue more quickly, contributing to the introduction of project management as a new science. Humanity relies on this science to overcome the unique challenges resulting from the rapid pace of changes and innovations in all areas of production and service. One of the most reputable centers that have contributed a lot to collecting information and analyzing the best project management methods, and documenting and disseminating project management knowledge is Project Management Institute, which has provided valuable services. Globally, PMI is known on five continents and has a very high reputation.

As an ANSI-recognized exporter of project management standards, PMI offers additional services beyond the above:

  • A continuous collection of statistics and information about project management methods.
  • Organizing international conferences and encouraging experts to present new content.
  • An analysis of the best project management methods
  • Documentation of the presentation and dissemination of project management knowledge.
  • Creating and maintaining a global network for project practitioners and managers.
  • Project management books compilation and publication (www.pmibookstore.org).
  • Developing standards for project management, applications, portfolios, and related categories.
  • The awarding of international project management credentials.

In the past few years, PMI has published one of its most valuable scientific and practical achievements in the form of a book called project management body of general knowledge guide (PMBOK), which summarized a set of the most effective project management processes.

PMBOK, project management standard book (PMBOK 6th Edition), contains 13 chapters. Chapters 1-3 describe the project category, its management, and project management framework. As can be seen in the fifth edition, the standard book has included a topic related to the knowledge of project stakeholders or shareholders that has become increasingly important. In the sixth edition, agile project management has become one of the most critical concepts added to the standard book.

In chapters 4 to 13, 10 areas of project management knowledge are introduced and described.

PMBOK introduces and describes 49 management processes, inputs, tools, and techniques, outputs of these processes throughout ten chapters, and examines their interactions. Likewise, PMBOK introduces five process groups for project management, including opening, planning, executive, regulatory control, and closing.

PMI administers project management professional (PMP) certification exams on the monitor in 230 minutes, and there are 180 questions.  In addition to adhering to professional ethics, candidates must meet the following requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher holders:

Worked as a manager or collaborated in project governance for at least 4,500 hours (at least 36 months during the eight years before candidacy) without considering managing parallel or simultaneous projects.

2. Diploma and post-diploma holders:

Worked as a manager or collaborated in project governance for at least 7,500 hours (at least 60 months during the eight years before candidacy) without considering managing parallel or simultaneous projects.

3. All candidates participating in the test should:

Receive a certificate of participation in project management training courses approved by PMI.

Note that Pearson (https://home.pearsonvue.com/), the test organizer on behalf of the PMI, holds the project management professional exam. Candidates who complete the PMI qualifying stages can refer to the Pearson website to determine the location and time of their exam.
